Orange and Red on Pink, 1991, screenprint, edition of 70

Orange and Red on Pink

Orange and Red on Pink, 1991, was one of the first screenprints Barns-Graham made in collaboration with a print studio. Working with Kip Gresham, then at Curwen Studio, in the summer of 1991 Barns-Graham selected three paintings to reproduce in lithography and screenprinting. The first of these to be executed was Orange and Red on Pink, a large gouache from her 1958-60 Spanish Paintings series. Barns-Graham soon moved away from reproducing paintings as prints after recognising printmaking could open up possibilities for making new work.

Orange and Red on Pink, 1991, was presented to Tate by the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust in 2012 as part of a large gift of prints to celebrate the centenary of the artist.
