World Premiere of A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things
The world premiere of Mark Cousins’ most recent documentary, A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things, exploring how an encounter with a glacier shaped Barns-Graham’s vision of the world, will take place this evening at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Featuring Tilda Swinton as the voice of Scottish painter Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, the film tells the story of a remarkable artist and a magnificent obsession.
One day in 1949, a young Scottish painter climbed a Swiss glacier. The experience rewired her brain, and transformed her art. Barns-Graham was synaesthetic – associating letters, names and people with particular colours – and Cousins explores how her neurodiversity and her encounter with the glacier shaped her vision of the world.
The film is one of 12 selected for the Crystal Globe competition at the Festival and will receive it’s first public showing this evening at its premiere in the 1000-seater Hotel Thermal Grand Hall cinema.
