Modern Scottish Women Painters and Sculptors 1885-1965
Modern Scottish Women Painters and Sculptors 1885-1965
The Barns-Graham Charitable Trust is a sponsor of this remarkable exhibition that explores the work of Scottish women artists from 1885 to 1965. The artists range from the very well known to those lost in obscurity but whose paintings wholly deserve to be included in this survey. Four paintings by Wilhelmina Barns-Graham have been selected – Studio Interior, also known as Red Stool, Studio (1945); Box Factory Fire, Cornwall (1948); Glacier Chasm (1951); and Red Landscape (1957). Each reflects a very different aspects of Barns-Graham’s work while illustrating her modernist leanings.
The exhibition is at Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art 2 in Edinburgh. It opens on Saturday 7 November and runs until 26 June 2016. For further details visit the National Galleries website
